WINE OF THE MONTH- AUGUST

One of Tuscany’s most famous wine producers is the Antinori family. They offer a wide range of wines, all based on the Sangiovese grape, from the award-winning high end Super-Tuscan Solaia and Tignanello blends to the more affordable Peppoli Chianti Classico and Villa Toscana blends. You’d be hard pressed to go wrong with any of these, but the most recent release of the latter shows the family operating in top form at a widely available bargain price point. This blend shows a distinct varietal character and is a perfect match with hearty cuisine. I recently enjoyed a medium rare bison ribeye with a couple of glasses while I sat outside on the famous Rush Street triangle. Cheers!

Antinori Villa Antinori Toscana Red 2008, 89 Points, $24, 65,087 Cases Imported- Lots of wet stone mineral embraces black cherry and dark raspberry fruit with undertones of briary peppery spice and notes of chocolate.
