To close down the year, here’s my pick for December, made by a top level Spanish producer that earned my Wine of the Year a few years back. This is their entry level wine, a 100% Tempranillo that perennially delivers extremely impressive and unusual power and finesse for this price point. I enjoyed it during my Birthday dinner at Hugo’s Frog Bar alongside a massive ribeye steak.
NUMANTHIA-TERMES TORO TERMES 2009, 92 Points, $30, 7000 Cases Made- Luscious, plush and creamy, with a deep, complex body of blackberry and black cherry fruit that is layered with dark notes of chocolate, iron and wet stone mineral. Thick, dark, complex and awesome, with refined tannins for its youth.
